A Journey of Empowerment: Asha’s Story with Geno Epilepsy Center and NCPWD

At the Geno Epilepsy Center for Empowerment, we are filled with gratitude for the incredible progress we have witnessed over the last four years. As an organization committed to empowering people living with epilepsy, we’ve seen firsthand how access to education, medical support, and a strong community can transform lives. This week, we are especially grateful as we reflect on the journey of one of our brightest clients, Asha.

A Chance for Education

Four years ago, when our center was still in its early stages, we were presented with a life-changing opportunity from the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD). They offered us the chance to forward the name of any client who had completed their primary education exams with a score of 250 or higher, for a potential full scholarship. We were thrilled to put forward Asha’s name, who had worked hard and scored an impressive 336 marks. We knew she was capable of great things, and her academic achievement gave her the opportunity to secure a four-year scholarship to attend Ogande Girls High School.

A Journey of Support and Growth

Today, four years later, we visited Asha at Ogande Girls as she prepares for her final exams. Our visit was not only to encourage her as she approaches this important milestone, but also to ensure she has everything she needs to succeed—including enough antiseizure medication and confirmation that her disability certificate was properly attached during exam registration.

One of the most heartwarming aspects of Asha’s journey has been the unwavering support she has received from the school administration. Thanks to their inclusive environment, Asha never faced any stigma related to her condition. Instead, her self-esteem has flourished, and she has grown into a confident young woman ready to take on her exams.

We are incredibly grateful to the entire Ogande Girls fraternity for their continuous support over the past four years. The teachers, staff, and fellow students have been a crucial part of Asha’s growth, making her feel valued and capable every step of the way.

Empowerment Through Partnership

This journey would not have been possible without the support of our amazing partners, including the NCPWD and KCB. Together, we have been able to provide Asha with the resources and encouragement she needs to succeed, both academically and in managing her epilepsy. As she gets ready for her exams, we, along with our partners and supporters, stand by her side, cheering her on.

Looking Ahead

Asha’s story is one of hope, empowerment, and resilience. Her success is a testament to what can be achieved when individuals are given the right opportunities, and when communities come together to support and uplift one another. As Asha prepares for her final exams, we are filled with pride and optimism for her future.

To Asha and the entire Ogande Girls family—you are our heroes. We wish you all the best in the upcoming exams, and we know you will continue to make us proud.
